Old lady with makeup

Among Cubans it is usually said that Havana is a “powdered old lady,” a woman that attempts to hide her age with layer upon layer of paint overlapping each other that can no longer remedy the source of her wear and aging.
Just like with geological strata for the Earth or the concentric rings in tree trunks, history is written and comprehended “layer upon layer.”
